Pedra Dura turns Lagos into a dance festival for eleven days
The 5th Pedra Dura — Festival de Dança do Algarve runs Nov 4–14 across the town: dozens of shows, concerts, DJ sets, masterclasses and exhibitions. The first three nights are inside our window. Wed Nov 4, 21:00: Pele Nómada by Aline Belfort and João Fiadeiro at the Armazém Regimental (72 min, access terms still to be announced). Thu Nov 5, 21:00: a ticketed double bill at the Centro Cultural, M16 — handy, because Thursday is the wet day. Fri Nov 6, 21:30: ANTERA’s Delíria, free, billed for the LAC but described as site-specific at the dock of the Forte da Ponta da Bandeira — check the venue before you go. The second weekend is bigger; start now.
2 — The One Nobody’s Told You About
An 1886 English organ wakes up in Portimão’s main church — free
The Festival Internacional de Órgão do Algarve is in its 19th year and runs to 29 November, and Portimão gets the opening. The Igreja Matriz has a historic organ built in 1886 by Henry Fincham. On Friday Oct 30 at 21:00 Ricardo Toste plays it with the Coral Adágio — Esteves, Handel, Bach and Mozart. On Friday Nov 6 at 21:00 the Liz Consort (organ, soprano, flute) brings Bach, Vivaldi and Seixas. Both are free, no booking. If Friday clashes, Toste is back on Sun Nov 1 at 18:00 in Lagoa’s Igreja Matriz, sharing the evening with harpist Rebeca Csalog, also free. Organ festivals never get the posters they deserve. Sit near the back; that’s where the sound comes together.
3 — Not An Event
You get five dry days, then the autumn rain arrives on Thursday
Enjoy it while it lasts. Fri Oct 30 to Tue Nov 3 stay dry at 23–25°C, and the chance of rain never gets above 12%. Friday is the calm one, with wind of just 11 km/h, and Monday is calmer still at 10 km/h. Sunday is the breezy day (22 km/h) with a 1.4 m swell. Then it turns. Wednesday drops to 20°C under fog, and the model puts about 35 mm of rain on Thu Nov 5, the first proper soaking of the season, with a 1.6 m swell. Friday brings drizzle at 22°C. The sea holds at 17.6–18.2°C all week, cool but swimmable on a still day. So do the coast walk by Tuesday, keep Thursday for indoor shows, and go to the Monchique streams on Friday, once the rain has filled them.

This one is a week of two halves, and the weather splits it for you. The long dry weekend is for being outside. Walk the Fishermen’s Trail out of Odeceixe, browse the Feira de Todos-os-Santos by the river in Silves, or watch old racing cars at the Algarve Classic Festival. In the evenings there’s a free mandolin-and-piano concert in Lagos on Friday and a historic organ in Portimão the same night. Sunday’s 50th-birthday concert from the Grupo Coral de Lagos includes a world premiere. Then Thursday’s rain arrives just as Pedra Dura opens, and for once that timing is a gift: Lagos gets eleven days of dance, much of it free. Portimão’s Feira de São Martinho opens on Friday with chestnuts and farturas. And once the streams are running, the Barranco dos Pisões is the best walk after rain. Book the Thursday double bill now.

Rouxinol — a “commanded dance” to put off the end of the world
Winner of the Rede aZul 2025 creation call: six performers, Chopin’s mazurkas, Messiaen’s birds, and a grandmother who could spin very fast. It’s about the countryside pushing back against Lisbon. €8 for an hour of theatre is the cheapest good night out in Portimão this week. Doors 20:40.

FunDay Halloween — let the Arena wear the kids out
Two days of inflatables, trampolines, obstacle courses, a dynamic bungee and, on the Gold ticket, climbing wall and mechanical rides. Ages 2+, the ticket lasts all day with re-entry, and up to two adults per child go in free. Prices go up on the door (€21 normal), so buy ahead.

A Magia das 1001 Noites — belly dance for a wet Thursday
The twelfth annual oriental-dance show at Lagoa’s auditório. Entry is free, but you have to collect a ticket first, so do it before the rain. It’s a local school’s big night: sequins, proud families and real effort on stage.

Timo Dillner’s “O Cruzeiro” — still the show to see in Lagos
Work from 2018 to 2026 by a painter who has lived in Lagos since 1998. It’s his thank-you to the town, and it takes on war, greed, technology and time. If Thursday rains you off the beach, this is the hour to spend.

Algarve Terroir — contemporary art in Teixeira Gomes’s house
A group show of contemporary artists in the writer-president’s house. Its final week overlaps with the painting show “Pintar sem tinta… em cores”, which is also on to Nov 7, so you can see both in one visit.

Migrating birds of the Algarve, in a village hall in Messines
Joaquim Soares’s exhibition on the region’s migratory birds, in its last ten days. It’s small and local, and a good stop if you’re driving up to Silves for the fair.

Still running in Loulé. Pair it with Geometria da Indigência, which is on to Nov 14, and the Saturday Mercadinho in the morning.

Fishermen’s Trail, Odeceixe to Aljezur — the long coastal day
Starts at the Rua do Rio in Odeceixe, back down to the beach, along the fishermen’s paths and across coastal heath to Aljezur market, with Rogil for lunch. Sand makes it harder than the climb suggests. Stay on the marked path, and leave the fixed ropes alone (see In Brief).

A short loop on boardwalks through a steep valley outside Alferce, ideal for a foggy 20°C Wednesday. If you have more legs, the 6.6 km version climbs on to the old castle.

Barranco dos Pisões — the stream walk worth waiting for
A riverside picnic site under a 150-year-old, 41-metre plane tree classed as a monumental tree, with clear running water and a lush gallery of trees. After 35 mm of rain the water is the point. You can drive right up to it, so it suits anyone.

Walk & Art Fest — guided walks and village music in Barão de São João
Ninth edition: walks, themed and BTT rides, concerts, talks, workshops, kids’ activities and exhibitions in the woods and the village streets. Free, but activities need registration through the festival programme, and the walks fill first.

Algarve Classic Festival — historic racing to close the circuit’s season
Three days of historic racing cars from different eras, with exhibitions and parades of classics. The full timetable is on the organiser’s site, and tickets are on sale there too. Friday’s practice sessions are the quiet way in. Go with the dry weather.

Portugal Open de FootGolf at Penina
The national footgolf federation’s main event: 220–250 players, some of Europe’s best, on two 18-hole courses laid out over the Championship course. It’s football with golf etiquette, and stranger and more fun to watch than it sounds.

The Grupo Coral de Lagos turns 50 — with a world premiere
The choir, the youth choir and a teachers’ ensemble from the conservatório, conducted by Vera Batista. Part one is Eurico Carrapatoso’s “Lagos, Legos”. Part two is the premiere of “Bravura”, which the choir commissioned for its 50th. A town choir premiering a piece written for it is about as Lagos as Sunday gets.

The All Saints’ fair by the river, running through the holiday weekend to Sunday Nov 1. Come for the stalls, the noise and the chestnut smoke, then walk up to the castle. Park on the far side of the bridge.

Feira de São Martinho opens — 363 years of farturas
Portimão’s fair dates back to 1662. Expect farturas, pão com chouriço, roast chestnuts, sweet potatoes, grilled octopus, bumper cars and stalls of kitchenware. The new-and-used car show at the Arena opens 16:00–24:00 on Nov 6–7. Youth day is Nov 11 and family day is Nov 15, both with special prices.
